The Teamwork Palette® Seven Elements of Team Success

I really like the expression “soft skills that drive hard results” which I picked up from our colleagues at Eagle’s Flight. The truth behind this phrase is increasingly supported by research on organizational excellence as well as from the exploding field of neuroscience.

Most of the modest gains I have managed to make in my own effectiveness revolve around soft skills. For example, I’m getting better at receiving feedback and shifting my mindset to a place of curiosity and openness to new perspectives and ideas that can help me grow. Even my wife Linda will tell you this is so…and, hey what more evidence does a guy need?

We are all on a path of growth and I find this to be especially the case with the best managers and high potential future managers. I wish this were equally true for teams and work groups!

When teams learn to master the soft skill of discussing openly their meetings’ process (vs. fixating solely on the work of the team), they are able to access so much more of their potential to deliver results. But these conversations don’t come easily, even to well intentioned teams.

I believe that teams need help to shift their focus–when necessary–from WHAT they are doing to HOW they are doing it. In my experience, very few do this well, or at all. Meetings anywhere will benefit immensely from a structured approach and easy-to-use tool.

Well, I am pleased to tell you that such a tool and approach have arrived…in the form of the Teamwork Palette®. We are featuring it in this month’s Spotlight section below.
